Early visual development of Dungeon CEO
After the game concept is confirmed, early visual development starts by gathering reference images, creating mock-ups, and drawing sketches. In Dungeon CEO, since we will have lots of monsters for players to hire and around 10 characters battling on the same screen simultaneously, a simplified cartoon style fits better for both clarity and visual interest. After the general art style is confirmed, style guides are created in our game design documentation.
Early game UI design includes screen flow diagrams and sketches for conceptualization and composition. UI style guides are also created, which include elements like color palette, fonts, and text format. Early logo sketches are created to convey the overall game feel.
Lastly, an asset list and metrics are created to identify what assets need to be made to fulfill the game, and what their sizes are. Since the maximum screen resolution for our game will be 1920x1080px, all art and UI assets will be created under this setting.
